The Importance of Investing in Women

Women have an incredible amount of value and contribution to give to the world, yet, globally are often lacking an opportunity to showcase their value. When we limit the potential of some, we are limiting the potential and prosperity for all.
The United Nation’s Women, an entity of the United Nations dedicated to women empowerment and gender equality, eloquently notes “Women’s economic empowerment is central to realizing women’s rights and gender equality.”

According to the United Nation’s Women Facts and Figures report, “Women’s economic empowerment includes women’s ability to participate equally in existing markets; their access to and control over productive resources, access to decent work, control over their own time, lives and bodies; and increased voice, agency and meaningful participation in economic decision-making at all levels from the household to international institutions.”

Supporting women owned businesses is an incredible way to invest in women. This can be women in your local community to women in artisan communities around the world. While purchases are the most effective way to support these businesses; joining their community, becoming informed of the challenges facing women in the economic space, and sharing their mission are also great ways to invest.

Investing and supporting education for women and girls is another highly effective way to support women’s economic empowerment. As access to education and skills training increases, women have further opportunity to advance in their careers and be more resilient to changes in the job market.

Collective Humanity is founded by women and invests in the artisan women who craft their beautiful product. Investing and supporting this incredible artisan community of women is at the core of Collective Humanity.
